MPO Consolidation Rule

In December 2016, the U.S. DOT issued a Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Coordination rule. This new rule would affect our region’s MPO (CMAP), northwest Indiana and most of southeast Wisconsin. MPOs affected by this rule would require significant changes along the lines of merging MPOs.

On April 28, 2017, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to approve S.496 bill, which would repeal the U.S. DOT’s “Metropolitan Planning Organization Coordination and Planning Area Reform” rule. The bill is currently awaiting the President’s signature, which if signed, S.496 bill will become law.
